Playing a gig in 1996 - This kit was bought new in Knoxville, Tennessee by the amazingly talented Alan Williams around 1971. (The earliest matching color swatch I can find in a Ludwig catalog is 1973, but Alan was certain they were purchased BEFORE 1972.) I got them from Alan, the original owner, in 1994 after he switched to a Roland electronic rig to play with a Jeff Lacey, Scottie Walker, and Tracy Walker in the band Untamed Heart. The "Butcher Block" finish just SCREAMS "Seventies," doesn't it?
This vintage maple Ludwig kit consists of a 14x22 bass drum, a 14x10 mounted tom, a 16x16 floor tom, and a 5 1/2x14
CLEAR VISTALITE (!!!) snare.
This is the snare I will probably play for the rest of my life. It is the _SWEETEST_ snare I have ever heard or played. :D

This is my set of 1971 Ludwigs. They are as old as I am. This was at a little road house bar in Alabama. As you can imagine, that was a night of playing lots of Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, ZZ Top, Molly Hatchet, and .38 Special. Also had to play some *shudder* Country & Western. |
